About visiting Saratoga

Saratoga National Historical Park is a National Historical Park in NY and a relatively quiet park, drawing about 119,000 recreation visits in 2025. Visitation has eased over the past decade, down about 13.7%. Crowds concentrate sharply by season: July is the busiest month at about 2.2× the park's average month, while January is the calmest at roughly 0.3× — a 9-to-1 swing between high and low season. Roughly 46% of the year's visitors arrive in the three summer months of June, July and August alone, so timing a trip outside that window is the single biggest lever on how crowded the park feels. If avoiding people matters most, January offers the thinnest crowds of the year, though you'll trade some warmth and daylight for the solitude. Daylight ranges from about 8.8 hours in midwinter to 15.2 hours near the summer solstice, which shapes how much ground you can cover in a day. These crowd figures are drawn from 1979–2025 of National Park Service visitor-use records, and are updated as new monthly data is released.

Park overview

In 1777, a large British invasion force met an equally large American army here at Saratoga. After two intense battles, an eight-mile retreat, and a three-day siege, British General John Burgoyne surrendered his entire force. This first ever surrender of a British Army is one of the pivotal moments in determining the outcome of the Revolutionary War, forever changing the future of the world.

Weather & conditions

The park experiences all four seasons. Temperatures can be as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit in winter and as high as 100 degrees Fahrenheit in summer. Check local weather reports for more detailed information.
