Where to Stay Near US National Parks
Lodging near a national park is priced by crowd level, so when you go decides what you pay as much as where you stay. Below are the 24 most-visited units, each with the month our data recommends for the best balance of light crowds and good weather — and a direct link to live availability near that park. We cover 385+ NPS units in total, 59 of them full national parks and preserves.

Frequently asked questions
When is the cheapest time to book lodging near a national park?
Lodging tracks crowds, so the cheapest windows are the months with the lowest visitation — usually late autumn through early spring at most parks. The catch is weather. The shoulder-season month each park page recommends is normally the best balance: noticeably below the summer peak on crowds and price, but still comfortable to visit.
Should I stay inside the park or in a gateway town?
In-park lodges book out furthest ahead — often close to a year for the marquee parks — and rarely discount. Gateway towns have far more inventory, more price movement, and are usually 20–60 minutes from the entrance. If you are visiting in a peak month, a gateway town is normally the only thing still available.
How far ahead should I book?
For a peak-month visit to a high-visitation park, treat six months out as normal and a year out as safe for in-park lodging. In a park's quietest months you can often book inside a few weeks. Each park page shows its month-by-month crowd index so you can see which case you are in.
